Piercing pioneers like Jim Ward and Fakir Musafar helped popularize the practice of nipple and genital piercings, initially within the queer and kink communities. Nipple piercings gained popularity within the punk subculture as a form of self-expression and defiance of societal norms. They are every bit as popular today, if not more so, than they were then.
